Education

SEL proposes to make education easily accessible to project affected families of the core peripheral villages. To empower the local community, SEL has partnered with leading NGOs, government departments and local schools to expand educational services to children in adjoining villages. It has undertaken schemes to facilitate English language education, renovate schools, minimize school drop-outs and enhance nutritional standards of children.
A host of activities have been conducted to support and encourage education:

MoU between DAV and SEL, Jharsuguda
In an agreement with DAV, SEL has offered to pay for admission and education expenses of 102 children from project affected families. SEL will also pay for the transport facility offered by DAV. Uniform, books and other stationeries have been distributed to these children.

School Renovation
To ensure good education supported by quality ambience, SEL has undertaken renovation of schools. DAV school buildings have been refurbished and a new floor has been added. Construction has been carried out in four schools.

Anganwadi Renovation
SEL introduced the pre-school culture for all-round development of children from a tender age. Anganwadi centres cater to children aged between three and six and provide activity based learning and SEL has supported the development of Anganwadis in partnership with the Government of Orissa. Six such pre-schooling centres were renovated.

Project in partnership with PRATHAM
PRATHAM is the largest non governmental organization working to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of India.

The project undertaken by SEL, in partnership with PRATHAM, aims to encourage and strengthen elementary education in schools across five chosen villages. The immediate target of the venture is to target 1250 children.

Centralized kitchen
To guarantee holistic nutrition children at school and minimizing drop-out rates, SEL opened a centralized kitchen to provide mid-day meals to children. The kitchen will feed 30000 school going children.

Looking ahead
SEL’s initiatives are directed at increasing the interest level of children and reducing the drop out rate.

The firm, in association with Vedanta Foundation, looks forward to provide basic computer training to youth and children.

To prevent poverty from becoming an impediment in the path of knowledge, education of meritorious poor children will be financially sponsored. Scholarships will be accorded to best performing class 10 students from families below the poverty line. Around 200 children will be identified for scholarship.
