Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) Colony (Maa Samaleswari Nagar)
 
As per the Government of Orissa R&R Policy 2006, to resettle and rehabilitate the Project Displaced Families (PDF) a Resettlement Colony named "Maa Samaleswari Nagar" was developed in 2007 by Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda accommodating all 145 Displaced Families. Shifting of PDFs from their original habitat was done in two Phases. Baghiamal hamlet of village Brundamal consisting of 66 families were the first batch shifted in May 2007. Families of Orampada and Rohidaspada hamlets of village Bhurkamunda & Banjari with 79 houses were shifted under the second phase in January 2008.
 
Resettlement and Rehabilitation Assistance
  • All PDFs were provided option of employment with Vedanta Limited. Out of 145 PDFs, 71 opted for one time cash assistance in lieu of employment. All of them were paid Rs.5 Lakh cash assistance as per the R & R policy 2006.
  • Remaining 74 PDF opted for employment and are currently working as full time employee of Vedanta. These PDF were imparted 18 months skill up gradation training on different aspects i.e. soft skill enhancement, housekeeping and office management.
  • Each PDF have been provided 10 Decimal of home stead land in the Resettlement Colony with legal title.
  • Every PDF has been provided house with a built up area of 657.92 sq ft.
  • All houses are connected with electricity & water supply facilities.
  • The Common property/resources like school, medical dispensary, aaganbadi centre, temples and community buildings have been created for the benefits of the PDFs.
 
Health and Sanitation:
Vedanta Limited aims at providing basic health amenities to the residents of the colony which includes:
  • Mobile Health Unit (MHU) visits twice a week consisting of qualified and experienced doctor, pharmacist and nurse.
  • Individual Health cards have been provided to the residents of the colony.
  • Health check-ups are conducted and patients are provided free treatment and medicines.
  • Seasonal Health camps are organised on diseases such as Dengue, Malaria etc.
  • All the 74 PDFs employed with SSL have been covered under the Employee State insurance Act, 1948 and have been provided with ESI card to avail the facilities.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of drains and common resources.
 
Education:
  • Tutorial assistance is provided to the students of the colony.
  • Incentive to meritorious students in the colony.
  • Twenty Five (25) children from PDFs are admitted to DAV School with full sponsorship from Vedanta from LKG to class 10.
 
Livelihood
  • 74 PDFs directly employed with the organization.
  • Four SHGs are functional in the colony engaged in various activities
  • Entrepreneurs have been promoted practicing poultry, paper cup making etc.
  • Trainings have been provided on Phenyl making, Incense sticks making, Dairy, Poultry etc.
  • Training on Tailoring provided to the women of the colony.
 
Sports and Culture:
  • Local festivals of the community namely Nuakhai, Namyagna, Naginchauthi, Boel Jatra, Karma puja etc are celebrated with the community.
  • Sports activities such as football and cricket tournaments are organized for the villagers and even sports committee has been formed for organizing such events.
 
Bio- Investment and Plantation:
  • In order to make the colony greener till date around 11000 saplings have been planted in the common areas.
  • Saplings were distributed to each and every household for planting in their houses.
 
Infrastructural Details:
  • Street lights in the colony
  • Concrete road inside the colony connecting to each house measuring about 2340 meters
  • 4 submersible pumps for water supply
  • Two Overhead tanks of 60,000 litres each
  • Pipe supply water connection to each houses
  • Three Ponds for regular use of residents
  • Fourteen Tube Wells
  • One Primary School (Std. 01 to 05)
  • One Anganwadi Centre
  • Three Crematoriums
  • Three Temples
  • Two community halls
  • One Market place
  • 1.2 k.m. all weather approach road to the colony
